For The Sake Of The Children

Part One:

For the Sake of the Children has been available in the Yukon since 1998. During the three hour information workshop parents receive information on children’s reactions to separation and divorce and how parental behaviours can affect the adjustment and well-being of children. Workshop content stresses the development of co-operative approaches to co-parenting, and an emphasis on mediation to reduce conflict between parents.

This 3 hour workshop introduces parents to:

• The separation experience for children
• Children's reactions / Children's needs
• Parenting plans
• Alternatives to court
• Ongoing parenting and communication
• Children’s reactions/Children’s needs
• Benefits of co-operation

Part Two :

Parent Communication Workshops. This 6-hour workshop focuses on communication skills that parents can use to support children through the separation and divorce experience. Previous attendance of For the Sake of the Children Part 1 is mandatory.

Information Sessions: Information sessions are available to professionals working with children and their families. Sessions can be offered to daycare workers, healthy family support workers, social workers, family lawyers, judges, etc. Sessions can be available by video conferencing to include resource people living in the rural communities.
