National Family Week 2011
The theme for this year is:
'Turning Your Family's Values into Action'

The focus is on encouraging families to think about how their values take shape and become a part of their everyday activities. Exploring your family’s values can create a
strong sense of unity and provide a clear understanding of what your family feels is
important.
The key to helping children understand a family value is to act on the discussion. For example, many families value protecting the environment, and apply that by
teaching their children about recycling or by biking with their children to school.
Many Rivers, with support from Partners for Children, the Whole Child Program, Skookum Jim Friendship Center and other community groups, will be organizing an array of fun and family oriented activities for National Family Week, October 3rd to 9th, 2011.
There are many, many activities, like the free family dinner in Whitehorse. Click here to see the National Family Week 2011, Schedule of Events'.
National Family Week has been celebrated since 1985 when it was proclaimed an official week by the Government of Canada. It is always a week before Thanksgiving, which is a time of family togetherness. The Yukon Government, Dawson City and the City of Whitehorse have proclaimed this an official week. The Canadian Association of Family Resource Programs (FRP Canada) provide family oriented resources and activity suggestions. This link will take you to their site. National Family Week
